Our History

Over 30 years of electroplating.

What began as one man’s idea is now a modern family business with a team that lives and breathes quality.

1890

Origin of Electroplating in Georgenthal

Founding of a metal goods factory in Tambach-Dietharz. Orders from the automotive, tobacco pipe, and armaments industries form the basis.

1946

Nationalization and New Beginning

The factory is dismantled and re-established in 1947 as a state-owned enterprise for the production of light bulb bases, bicycle bells, and reflectors.

1982

New Production Unit in Georgenthal

Construction of a new production site with its own electroplating facility in Georgenthal to meet the high demand for light bulb bases.

1992

Founding of Galvanotechnik Jens Holzapfel GmbH

On August 4, 1992, 22-year-old Jens Holzapfel takes over the business and re-establishes it as an independent company. Starts with 17 employees.

1993–1994

First Major Investments

New construction of the copper-nickel barrel line and zinc barrel line, construction of the first zinc rack automatic machine, modernization of the chrome line, new construction of the wastewater treatment plant, and acquisition of the first transporter.

1995–1999

Capacity Expansion and New Processes

Expansion of the first zinc rack automatic machine, construction of the second zinc rack automatic machine with the introduction of chromium(VI)-free coatings, expansion of the vehicle fleet with the first truck, and extension of the office wing.

1999

ISO 9001 Certification

First-time certification by TÜV Hessen according to the quality management standard DIN EN ISO 9001.

2000–2005

New Systems and Processes

Construction of a new zinc and zinc-nickel barrel plating line, introduction of zinc-iron coating, expansion of the vehicle fleet and social facilities.

2007

Major Production and Warehouse Expansion

Expansion of warehouse and production area by 2,500 m², new construction of the high-performance zinc rack automatic machine with chromium(VI)-free passivations and sealants, renewed expansion of the vehicle fleet.

2008

ISO 14001 Certification

Certification according to the environmental management standard DIN EN ISO 14001 by TÜV Hessen.

2012

20 Years of Galvanotechnik Holzapfel

Construction of another warehouse with 600 m² of space, new construction of a more powerful wastewater treatment plant, completion of the northeast facade. Establishment of a system for 100% control including packaging, weighing, counting, and labeling.

2014

Aluminum Passivation and Energy Management

Construction of an aluminum passivation automatic machine, acquisition of another renowned automotive supplier as a client. Certification according to DIN EN ISO 50001 (Energy Management).

Modern Family Business

Around 130 employees work in 3 to 4 shifts for clients from the automotive, mechanical engineering, construction, furniture, and metal and electrical industries. Continuous investments in technology and personnel secure the future.
